As a wholly-owned subsidiary of China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG), China Three Gorges International Corporation (CTGI) was founded on August 30, 2011 with a registered capital of 3.8 billion USD. Its total assets have reached 8.5 billion USD by the end of June, 2017.
CTGI bears the mission of implementing the "Going Global" strategy to build CTG into a world-class clean energy group and assumes the task of exporting CTG's whole industrial chain, focusing on investment & finance, design & construction, operation & maintenance, and consultation in clean energy sector including hydro, wind and solar.
It operates in 17 countries and regions in Europe, Asia, Latin America and Africa. By the end of June, 2017, its total installed capacity has reached 15GW, including projects in operation, under construction and minority equity investment based.
CTGI is executing its overseas investment through three major platforms: China Three Gorges South Asia Investment Ltd., China Three Gorges (Brasil) Energia Ltda. and CTG (Europe) S.A.
China Three Gorges South Asia Investment Ltd. (CSAIL) is jointly owned by CTGI with 70% of shares, IFC of the World Bank Group with 15% and the Silk Road Fund with another 15%. This platform is set for the investment in South Asia and Southeast Asia. It’s developing 2,484MW hydropower projects and 148.5MW wind power projects in Pakistan. China Three Gorges (Brasil) Energia Ltda. (CTG Brazil) is solely owned by CTGI. This platform is set for the investment in Latin America. CTG Brazil is the second largest private power generator in Brazil. It owns 17 hydropower plants and 11 wind farms with a total installed capacity of 8,270MW. CTG (Europe) S.A. (CTG Europe) is solely owned by CTGI. This platform is set for the investment in Europe and North America. In 2011, it acquired 21.35% stake in Energias de Portugal (EDP) from the Portuguese government and becomes EDP’s single largest shareholder. In 2016, it acquired 80% stake in the Meerwind Offshore Wind Farm Project (288MW) in Germany. Hydro Global Investment Limited (Hydro Global) is jointly owned by CTGI and EDP. This platform is set for the investment in small and medium size hydropower projects worldwide. Its first BOOT project is the San Gabán III Hydropower Project in Peru.
Today, with a total consolidated installed capacity of clean energy close to 120GW, CTG has become the largest clean energy group in China and the largest hydropower company in the world.
As the carrier of the overseas business of CTG, CTGI, with a vision to build itself into an international clean energy group, started to venture overseas in an effort to share its expertise and emulate others’ experience. CTGI endeavors to develop clean energy projects on an industrial scale to make the planet greener while addressing global climate change.
